Hustle Go Pay (2024).
Life is a constant loop which goes on and on until death comes. “Hustle go pay” is a Nigerian vernacular phrase that connotes “All your hard work will end in good /wealth/good news”.It is also a play on a Quranic verse close to my heart, “For indeed, with hardship will be ease”.
Exploring stop-motion techniques, Hustle Go Pay is to show a glimpse of my current life journey. In creating this work, I reminisce on the long journey that has gotten me here. I play with the concept of waking up, remembering how much of life is a constant up and down and still going again. With this project, I am playing with the idea of being outside my own body and seemingly being the controller.

Process.
I have always wanted to explore stop-motion techniques and this was the perfect project to work on. I wanted the final video to be a collage-style video with gritty paper textures and effects. It mostly is a combination of stop-motion animation, frame-by-frame character animation, and digital collage with post-production done in After Effects.
Initially, the character animation was meant to be a cut-out drawing of each frame in a walk cycle which was then photographed into DragonFrame. After encountering some technical problems and doing some text shots, I decided to cut out the actual image of me and then make a frame-by-frame animation in After Effects.
