Memories
This is an experimental short animation based on a poem I wrote years ago. The piece explores coming to terms with the loss of people close to me, while reflecting on how death is understood within my cultural and religious background—not simply as an ending, but as the beginning of another existence.
The work also extends the idea of death to places, ideals, and experiences connected to my home. Through animation, I revisit these memories and the deep sense of affection and attachment associated with them, exploring how both people and places continue to exist through memory.

I was responsible for the whole creative process. From art direction, storyboarding, illustration, animation and sound design.

Process
I wanted most of the illustrations to be true to the original locations so the rendering was mostly realistic although grains and textures were added for subtle effects. The majority of the animation was done in After Effects including the vignettes, light flares, and halos. The illustration is a mix of Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and Procreate work. The sound arrangement and design were done in Premiere Pro.
Poem
I knew someone;
a fair-skinned girl-woman
who was a burst of freshness
I knew someone;
a handsome young lad
who was loved and adored by his peers
I knew someone;
a grandma of three score, a decade and four years
whose sole existence radiate rays of happiness
I knew someone;
six young infants
each one’s existence; a mere blink of an eye
I knew someone;
a little physically-challenged girl full of life
who won the battle but lost the war
All these someone I knew
are all now no more
But they still live on through our hearts
